A significant portion of Pakistan's rug production occurs in and around Lahore and Karachi. Many of the rug knotters from that era fled to Pakistan during the war with India and made it their home. Today, hand-knotted Pakistani Bukhara rugs are particularly renowned. Like Afghan oriental rugs, Pakistani rugs often feature deep colors, predominantly shades of red. The well-known elephant foot pattern, characterized by a repeating octagonal design, is also present in Pakistani rugs.
